Our Junior Progression Pathway to Success
Lower rims, smaller fields, and shorter bats are just a few examples of sports adapting to our children's age and ability to compete; tennis is no different. Shorter racquets, lower bouncing balls, and scaled-down tennis courts allow players to progress with success. Determining the right ball for your player's age and ability will promote longer rallies, more consistency, and an overall more enjoyable experience. We offer 11 classes between the ages of 4 and 18, ranging from beginner to advanced in each age category. We use three stages of junior progression here at Sherwood Tennis Center. To learn more about our pathway to success, information on each step of the ball type, or interest in signing up your child, don't hesitate to contact us directly using any options available to you in the Contact Us section.
Red Tennis Balls: Slightly more significant than the standard ball and 75% slower. They are designed for 36' courts and children eight years of age or under.
Orange Tennis Balls: The same size as the standard tennis ball with a 50% reduction in pace, the orange ball is designed for 60' courts and children between 8 and 10.
Green Dot Tennis Balls: The same size as the standard tennis ball with a 25% reduction in pace, the green balls are designed for a full-length tennis court (78') and children 12 years of age or younger.

Our progressive pathway will include detailed information on the balls, racquets, and court size your child will be playing on. General performance components, minimum instructional hours, competitive match play, and overall comprehension of their assigned level will determine if they are ready for the next stage.
